Rio Tinto Wickham Accommodation Expansion

Rio Tinto Wickham Accommodation Expansion

Rio Tinto engaged Thinc’s Resources team to undertake Master Planning and prepare a Feasibility Study for the Wickham Accommodation Expansion Project (WAE) to support the planned 283Mtpa Iron Ore Export Expansion capability. Thinc was responsible for determining the economic viability of options to expand the town, including assessing strategies for the expansion of residences and the required utilities and amenities to potentially double the town’s population. The studies provided strategic analysis of the options to allow Rio Tinto to make high-value decisions quickly and effectively.

The scope of the studies includes a 264 lot land subdivision, 212 residential houses, 350 FIFO apartments and facilities, streetscape improvements, community facilities, recreation precinct upgrades and infrastructure upgrades. The studies provided detail designs ready for tender, a project procurement strategy and a complete cost estimate and schedule which was based on market testing.

On the back of the success of the 283Mtpa studies, Thinc’s Resource team has been engaged to undertake the design and studies associated with the second stage 353Mtpa expansion.
